The Green Climate Fund (GCF) Board members and alternate Board members are now being selected within constituencies and regional groups before the current three-year term of the Board concludes at the end of this year.
The GCF Board, consisting of 24 members representing developed countries and developing countries equally, is charged with the governance and oversight of the GCF. Each Board member has an alternate member.
The third term of Board membership will start on 1 January 2019 and end on 31 December 2021.
The selection process takes place in the frame of the constituencies and regional groups, whose chairs and coordinators have been invited to notify the GCF Secretariat the names of the selected Board members and alternate Board members by 30 September 2018.
According to paragraph 11 of the Governing Instrument, “members of the Board will have the necessary experience and skills, notably in the areas of climate change and development finance, with due consideration given to gender balance.”
The first and second terms of Board membership covered the periods 2013-2015 and 2016-2018, respectively.
The second 3-year term of Board membership expires on 31 December 2018, and the third term of Board membership will start on 1 January 2019 and end on 31 December 2021. The selection process for the third term of Board membership is currently being undertaken by the chairs or coordinators of regional groups and constituencies.
The GCF Secretariat issued a letter to chairs and coordinators of regional groups and constituencies in May 2018 informing them about the selection process for the third term of Board membership and inviting them to notify the GCF Secretariat in writing of the names and contact details of the selected Board members and alternate Board members by 30 September 2018.
According to paragraph 11 of the Governing Instrument, “members of the Board will have the necessary experience and skills, notably in the areas of climate change and development finance, with due consideration given to gender balance.”
Information on the status of nominations will be made available here after 30 September 2018.
