Spurred by the success it recorded in the redevelopment of Isale-Gangan phase 1 project that led to the erection and delivery of 11-floor structure with 48 serviced luxury apartments and a multipurpose hall in a project funded by the state government, the Lagos State government has commenced work on the phase 2 of the urban renewal project.

Specifically, the government said 2,465.913 Square Metres of land for a 13-floor apartment structure has been secured through a land pooling system whereby land holding families with smaller plots of land come together and released the land for redevelopment to the government.

Under the scheme, the government relocates the land holding families while the construction work last and give them back apartment when the project is completed.

State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Wasiu Anifowose, a town planner, disclosed this last week in Lagos at the year 2017 ministerial briefing to commemorate the second year anniversary of Governor Akinwumi Ambode administration.

The Commissioner explained that the structure is currently under construction, adding that compensation has been paid to all the families involved.

Anifowose added that the administration with the endorsement of Residents’ Association decided to redevelop the entire 720 housing units at the Adeniji Adele Housing Estate phases I-V, to improve the quality of the environment and return sanity to the area.

The estate, he said, will be redevelop into a residential mixed use development of 2500-3500 housing units with ancillary uses of commercial, institutional and recreational open spaces through a Private-Public Partnership (PPP) venture.

Speaking further on the activities of the Ministry, the Commissioner said as part of the government efforts targeted at five per cent reduction of the number of slums, the Ministry engaged 25 communities among which are: Amukoko, Mosafejo, Gaskiya West CDA, Ajowa Community, Abete, Badia/Oguntayo North, Oworonsoki and Daramola community.

“These communities have expressed their sincerity and willingness to work with government in regenerating and redeveloping their communities,” he said.

Anifowose said in line with the government agenda under Slum Upgrading/Regeneration Programmes which includes Relocation Plan (RAP), the government is constructing six units of 3-bedroom Transit Accommodation for displaced people during the redevelopment plan.  He added that the camps are provided at various parts of the state.
